How is mold remediation done properly?
Mold remediation, as described in the IICRC S520 industry standard, generally isolates the affected area, removes contaminated porous materials, cleans remaining surfaces and dries the area. Containment and HEPA air filtration are commonly used to keep spores from spreading. Fixing the moisture source matters just as much, because mold returns when the water does.
Where does mold usually grow in Iowa homes and buildings?

Do I need mold testing?
Not always. If you can see mold, the priority is usually removing it safely and fixing the moisture. Testing by an independent firm can help when you suspect hidden growth, need documentation for a sale, lease or insurer, or want confirmation after remediation.

Is black mold more dangerous than other mold?
Color doesn't tell you the species or the risk. Indoor mold growth should be removed safely and the moisture fixed. If someone in the home has health concerns, talk to their doctor.
Can I clean small mold spots myself?
The EPA says small areas (less than about 10 square feet) can often be cleaned by a homeowner. Growth on drywall, wood or insulation, or larger areas, is better handled professionally.
Will mold come back after remediation?
It can if the moisture comes back, which is why the water source has to be found and fixed.
Does insurance cover mold?
Coverage varies a lot. Mold from a sudden covered water loss is often treated differently from mold caused by long-term humidity or leaks. Check your policy.
