What is a contents pack-out?
A contents pack-out is when a restoration crew boxes and removes belongings from a damaged home or building, typically inventories them, and moves them somewhere safe for cleaning or storage while the structure is repaired. It helps protect belongings from further damage and gives the insurance claim a clear record of what was affected.
When do you need a pack-out?
Usually when the building needs work that belongings would be in the way of, or damaged by: tear-out, drying, soot cleaning or rebuilding. Sometimes only a few rooms need it.
- After a fire, when smoke and soot reached furniture, clothing and keepsakes
- After a large water loss, when floors and walls need to come out
- When a building will be under repair for weeks
- Before a hoarding cleanup, to separate what the owner wants to keep
